Today was spent upgrading our current Wordpress back-office to the newly released 2.6.4 version of the ultimate blogging platform tool around on the internet at the moment. We’re big fans at Airboy and cannot get away from the fact that if you want to start your own hosted blog, then this is the way to go. Hassle free blogging, automatic upgrades and so forth.
So you probably didn’t notice us upgrading to a new engine but we did, swiftly. It’s been a frantic few hours here at the headquarters. A team of 56 (few of them did strike the pose for the team picture below, but obviously we could’nt fit everyone in, in any case some of them were too ugly/nerdy to be pictured) were specially recruited for their coding magic and their cold blooded attitude to deal with the upgrade. We’re now fully operational and ready to rock’n'roll. We also added a few more features to the blog. For those who are RSSaholics like myself then you’ll totally digg the category/tags RSS feeds we’ve included. Let me explain for those who don’t understand a thing I’m rambling about. RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication. It’s what enables you to stay up to date with your favourites blog and news site you’ve suscribed to. Now, at Airboy, it used to be limited to the posts. But today we can announce that you can follow, for example, only the posts that include music/mp3s. To do so just click on the Tag named “mp3″ and if you’re running Firefox (and I hope you do), click the RSS logo in the address bar, Firefox will then give you the option to suscribe to the general Airboy RSS feed or the MP3 | Airboy RSS feed. Choose the latter and whenever I post a new post including a track or some kind of sound, you’ll be notified via your RSS reader in Firefox.
Does that make any sense or did I just waste some of your time here ?
Otherwise, we did a little PHP coding to clean up some glitches we noticed. And we’ve improved the caching system of the website so that design/images part of the overall layout are updated to the minute. And to finish with boring geek jargon, we added a numbered pagination for the index page, the search results and the archives pages to clarify the browsing. Or in other words, added a linear navigation to the blog.
Overall nothing you’d be interested in but I thought some Geeks/Nerds out there would like to know. If by any chance you stumble over a bug, fault in the blog, please do notify me so I can work on it.
Finally I can proudly say I have passed my Probation Period with Emirates and can now enjoy the likes of insanely cheap plane tickets and numerous discounts in hotel around the world. The only downside this coming month will be my reserve of which I’m soooooooooooooooooo not looking for.
