Like I said in my last post, I decided to smuggle some old pictures from Paris to Dubai because Kalil just got a new printer-scanner and having them transfered from paper to digital is way cooler. Now I can share stuff from the past… After installing a truck load of apps to run the beast I was able to scan the pictures and edit them in Photoshop. This post is more family orientated but since it’s a public blog well I guess you can be the voyeur that you are without having any guilt what so ever !
In the good old days my brother and I used to spend our summers between Aberystwyth (never mind the pronounciation, it’s in mid Wales) and Sartilly in Normandie, France. This is where our grandparents lived and we loved it ! It is also where we both learnt our english for the most part. Yeah mother is from the UK and father from France. Hence why I have both Passports and get so many questions during pre-flight briefing…
As french schools close for 2 months in the summer (July & August) we were sent over to wales or Sartilly to relieve our parents. They’d send the two devils by plane as UMs and that’s where our holidays would start. On the plane harrassing the Crew for more peanuts and asking them stupid questions all flight long. We usually got ourselves in the cockpit (those were the golden days, pre 9-11) during cruise and annoy the techies after the cabin crew ahd enough of us two. Our grandparents used to pick us up at Bristol Intl or Cardiff. The closest aiport to their house.
We did this every year. Sometimes forgetting the luggage behind, and Granny had to send nickers one by one by mail…
Below is my brother Nick and myself, fooling around with a hammer (you wonder why??) and Cook the collie that Gran’pa used to move the sheep around with :
But every year, just before going to Wales or Normandy, we’d get to go on hols with Mother & Father before we were way too old and less lazy. We’d spend two weeks either in France or abroad depending on how hard Mum & Dad worked during the year. So we got to go places and see most of Europe. We were ok travellers. The car trips were probably the worst part for Dad. We’d keep asking questions like any other kid would do … you know…”How far till we get there ?”, “How long now ?”, “When are we eating?”, “I need the loo!”, “Why is this lorry overtaking???” and so on… Our best holdiays were probably Kenya (with the grandparents and Cyrpus the same year). Photos below.
And this is one of my failed attempts to get Father, brother and Mother on the same photograph underwater. Not easy !
We were lucky. We were spoilt. The picture below is all about Nick dressed in his Batman outfit he got for X-mas and having fun in the snow. A superheroe’s favourite hobby !
Yeah in fact we used to have fun the rest of the year too. We’d go to school carnivals dressed as Robin Hood, do sports like Rugby (Brother did, I was happy rollerblading or playing Badminton). All of this was made possible by Mum amazing talent at designing outfits and finding stuff for us to do so she could relax at home. Don’t we look stunning in those Robin Hood costumes ? (Mum? How did you get that feather to stay up like that ????)
Those were the golden days. Thanks to Mum, Dad, Granny, Gran’Pa, Memere, and everyone else we used to hang around with ! We loved it. Check out the rest of the pictures below if you’re still here reading and interested….!
That’s all fro me today. Catch you up later.
