Today was spent mainly watching the latest on CNN, eating pot noodles and going over the highway to see french friends at the 21st century tower. But in a collective move, we decided to check out what the new, massive, WOWIWOOooooo, mall had to offer. It’s called The Dubai Mall and it’s one of the world’s largest shopping temple. Boasts sharks in an aquarium, thousands of shops (7000 I think) and so on. It was opening day today. As it is only a mere 15 minute walk + a deadly crossing we decided to make the journey by foot. And indeed it is close to 21st. VERY convenient for those on the DIFC side. The place is just HUGE. GIGANTIC. It also had a Waitrose for your daily grocery shopping. GUYS ! You can call Deira a quit and MOEs is Has-Been now that this thing opened. Every single shop you’d think of is there, from your cheap/tacky accessories outlet Claire’s to the very top end of the pile Jimmy Choo for you ladies. Mens are well suited too with a good range to choose from. Although half the shops are not open yet, the whole thing looks promising. No more hilarious mid-afternoon shows involving plate spinning and Croatian dancers. We now have the luxury of whatching models doing the catwalk wearing fancy crap from fancy designers. But the best thing of all here is the FIRST Gallerie LaFayette department store outside of France. Which is a big thing for us french here. If you have visited Paris, you most likely went to the oldest department store after Samaritaine. It is uber-popular with Asians. So expect some queues near the handbags corner…
Note that we have added an email service to Airboy. You can now suscribe to get the latest entries by email. Simply suscribe via the form in the left column. The proximity of the place is another plus. This means no more friggin’ taxi rides along busy Sheikh Zayed and no more waiting in line for the return cab as we can walk home easily. All in all a good new thing for Dubai…
Pictures will come later as I forgot the camera. Surely you can find some pics via Google.
Otherwise, I am proud to have stayed awake until the late hours of the morning today as I’ve been following the election on CNN. With states unfolding their results as the sun went down across the good ol’ US and A. Happy days. Many of us didn’t see it coming. We only saw black presidents in films like the Fifth Element, Deep Impact and The Man. And I can recall many people saying that was just not possible when seeing Morgan Freeman at the Head of The White House. But today is a different story. Those movies can now boast relevancy. Happy days. During his speech I was frightenned he’d get shot. Yes he did have bulletproof panels, but those were only placed on either side of Obama ! Thankfully nothing serious happened. But I’m sure we’ll be witnessing some horrible stuff in the coming months as this new president is a vulnerable target. I’m feeling a Kenndy #2 coming our way. Nonetheless, I’m happy to see the US have moved one step further to be a normal country. Will be happy to say to my kids I witnessed it all along with 9/11, the Bush era, the worst economic crisis and many other things.
Family news now. I told you a few weeks ago that Brother moved Down Under to Brisbane. He’s been there for around 3 weeks now. He’s settling in quite well and at an astonishing pace too. He found himself a bedroom in a house in central Brissie for a reasonnable amount of Dollarz. He, we’re happy about it, meaning he can ditch the dorm that holds 8 bunks and get a little more privacy. He also has work down the pipe too as he’s being taken on in a French restaurant. We do not know in what position yet because he’s giving sporadic news and he’d rather spend halloween living it up than talking to us over skype, which is very understandable. We’ll get some pictures soon too.

What’s the taxi situation at Dubai Mall like? Whilst it may be easy to walk to, I imagine that with a full days shopping in hand it may be difficult to lug over this side of the street.
And it would have been nice to watch some other news other than the presidential election. I’ve had enough already.
