Back in Dub-Dub. A trenchcoat later.

With winter coming fast here in Dubai, going below the 20s at night, it was time for a trenchcoat. and the thought of spending 24 hours in Glasgow in 3 days gave me cold chills. But I only thought of all this as I was window licking the Pepe Jeans store in Mall Of The Emirates, otherwise I was happy with my previous bomber jacket. But as soon as I saw this thing, I knew I would walk out the store with it. It’s classy, it’s black, it has buttons, it’s nicely cut. I normally do not go onto spending sprees but today was one of a kind. It all started of this morning (yes mum, I did get out of bed at around 5.30am, not because I wanted to, but because my body clock is going coucou after that aussie trip). I needed to entertain my brain and decided to go see the latest Bond flick, Quantum Of Solace. And because of all the previous failed attempts at enjoying movies in cinemas here in Dubai. I went Gold Class. In my opinion this is the only way to enjoy a movie here at the theater. NO screaming kids, no popcorn filled seats, no business men doing business on their phones, no families entering the show half-way through, no air-con pointed straight at your neck, no expat-teens that think they own the place and whisper yell at each other during showtime…. and everything else you will dare to see anywhere else in the world. Gold Class is way forward, the only thing I’m concerned with is the price. 100 dhs. Yep 100 ! Probably the most expensive cinema ticket I will ever pay for. But once in the theater you know why you pay an arm and a leg. You get a full-on reclining sofa for yourself, bigger than any first class seat on any airline ! You get a waiter to serve your popcorn and drinks at any time during the film, and there’s only civilised people in the audience. No phones what so ever and a great action filled flick on the silverscreen ! What else ??

Daniel Graig does a great 007, but this episode lacks a little story. Where has the guy with all the gadgets gone ? Where has the evil guy with evil intentions gone ??? But to be honest I was pleasantly surprised by Olga Kurylenko. Although we probably would of liked a little more flesh, like Halle Berry’s part in that other one. No bikini scene to dribble over … it’s probably because the government decided to cut it for decency. Otherwise you get what you ask for in terms of action and fist/gun fights.

Also the fact that you see half the film in the adverts before isn’t the best thing either.

  5. Oooh Glasgow and a hot new jacket! Cannot wait to hear how you like GLA!?!?

BTW when I was living in Glasgow, it has just beaten Edinburgh for the title of best shopping in all of Scotland…will be interesting to know your take on it if you make it shopping. If you are interested in going out for a few classy (in Glasgow??) bevvies, my suggestion is head to West End and then onto Aston Lane just off Byres Road. Some great little bars and restaurants in there just off a cobbled lane….
