Trip from hell and my December roster.

Hey dudes. Back from Shanghai. Not happy at all. There are a few reasons for that. First would be the dreadful flight over and back. I will not go into details, but what I can say is that we have a Business Class specially designed to accommodate our Business Travellers… Economy is WYSIWYG foolz (if you do not know what WYSIWYG means, click here) !! Secondly, my health, has spiralled down at a very rapid pace while on layover in Shanghai. Not having any sleep before the flight probably increased the whole darn thing. So, as soon as we got to the hotel I crashed into bed feeling dizzy and having cold/hot sweat. Waking up every ten minutes only to find my pillow was drenched. My throat is aching, my sinuses are in a bad state too… Those are the signs & symptoms, but me being me at First Aid, I could not figure out what I had. Cold, Flu, something worse ??? Can you tell ? By the way my nose isn’t runny at all ! So yeah I spent pretty much the whole layover in bed until I was starving and had to order some grubs. You can imagine my flight back to Dubai in that state. I didn’t say anything as I really wanted to be home and not stuck downroute for more days…

The third thing is my roster. December being December, with all the merry happenings and stuff I couldn’t ask for more at that time of year. I really hit the jackpot this month ! If there was a way to hack bloody Kronos…. The joke is 4 days off : 22nd, 23rd, 24th, 25th and the computer thought it would make me happy to work nice and fresh for an Athens turnaround with probably 10 passengers on-board ! Then the following day being off… I am extremely tempted to dial 2 on this one and enjoy a lovely Kwissmassss in Wales with the smala. We’ll see how things turn out, maybe a desperate crew will exchange my Athens for some days off, but that’s beyond my wildest dreams right now as I’m recovering from the trauma that was the Shanghai trip.

Voila. That’s how sick I am today. Will most likely have to make a guest appearance at the clinic on Sunday, but knowing their efficiency, I will probably come back home with two Panadol tablets.

In any case lets be positive and enjoy the next trip to Kuala Lumpur. I also need to find some presents so, I think that’s what I’m gonna do there !

  3. Poor You, I once worked a Cardiff-Toronto flight with my sinuses acting up, I thought I was going to die it was hell inside my body…could you not have opted out of working that flight ? That is one craze schedule for December, hope that Athens disappears, can’t you switch flights with someone or give away ?
I’m curious how many credit hours does that amount too (you Dec roster) ?

  4. chock to chock that is 85.40 hours. Duty is 116.20 hours. I’m in the very process of doing some hardcore swapping and give aways on the portal. But it seems no one wants my ATH on the 26th !!! No surprise here !

  9. I hope you get well soon! Flying when you’re sick is nowhere near pleasant! I had that last month! Have fun in KUL! Say hi to my hometown for me, I haven’t been back there in more than 2 years!
And if you do ever find a way to hack Kronos, tell me about it! I have training on Xmas eve and work all the way up to new years eve with just one day off in between! Pffft.

  10. Yo Ben! Take good care of yourself, you’ll get other Shanghais in the future, but you’ve got only one chance at health, screw it up and you’ll pay for it with your life (literally!)

  11. Oooh such a shame you didn’t get to see Shanghai.

Hope you get better real soon, it sucks being sick first of all, even worse being sick without your mum to make you feel better!

    :D

  12. Hey! Hope you get better soon, it isn’t exactly the best place to fall ill is it?

Unless you’re in hospital undergoing a leg amputation, I suggest you avoid calling in sick over Xmas, I can’t recall the penalty last year, but the year before that some crew who called in sick got wallopped with 3 months can-use. Even calling in sick over the Rugby 7’s can get you 1 month CU! In this job, the sooner you get used to being depressed over Xmas/NYE on a flight to TRV the better…
