Bowling on a Sunday evening. UAE’s national day.

With no much on our plates lately, many of the French contingent from this side of SZR (Sheikh Zayed for the hypsters) gathered in 21st with one thing on their mind ! Go bowling. Needless to say we were extremely well prepared as we only found out about Bowling alleys 10 minutes prior getting in a cab. So we headed to Deira Shity Center where Greg had noticed a doorway leading to 8 bowling alleys, just by the Sofitel. To my surprise, it is nothing I expected. A decade old place, with shaby lighting and weird looking owners. The type that wait for their single customer of the day and still manage to give you shivers as you walk up to them for a quote…

But we put up with the fear of being slaughtered and finally agreed on a mere discount with our BLING/INYOURFACE card and got ourselves kitted out with clown shoes ready to roll them heavy round things down at those sticks… Bowling that is. We played three games. The others were getting tired as Tall Ben and Nivine went “Bodyjumping” just before and Greg came back from a turnaround from I don’t know where…. So that was it. We had some fun but we won’t go back to this one EV-ER. We’ll go to the one I planned to go before everyone decided otherwise !  Here are the pictures :

In other news, I’ve managed to swap a Kuala Lumpur for a Paris. So I’m happy about that and my hardcore swapping session wasn’t has fruitful as I expected. I still have plenty of Turnarounds and days off to shrug off. If by any chance an actual EK crew is willing to give away a SIN-BNE for December I’d be willing to take it on in exchange of 2/3 TAs with days off on the 22nd + 23rd. Because I will not be able to make it for Kwissmass and I might just as well earn some dough instead.

OOOh and I have New Years Eve off too. So if you have any ideas of what to do in Dubai for NYE aside from spending a fortune on club entrances and drinks, where would you recommend ? But I’ll be definate about that on the 27th of course, because I have no idea if I’ll be working on the first or not. Crossing fingers… But I won’t be surprised….

I was getting all excited at seeing Christmas lights being put up all over the town yesterday night but then I realised it was for their UAE national day on the 2nd of December. Locals are getting uber-excited, to the point of taping a big ass flag on the front windscreen of their cars (sounds a little dangerous to me, add to that the way they drive, there’s no chance they’ll make it alive !). And because they like showing off a little. A huge laser display is going on at Emirates Towers with laser beams depicting what seems like a Sheikh’s head, but the thing is sooooo badly done it looks like a Picasso abstract of a camel’s head instead !! Not flattering !

Voila news from the sandpit. raw as always. Speak to you soon !

  2. Well I thought all bowling alleys were supposed to be like that…I don’t think I have ever been to any newish ones at all…infact I think the only new one I ever went to was in Brisbane about 5 years ago, and the only way they could bring in the clientèle they had paid so much to attract was to make it a cocktail bar as well I think…and bookings were highly recommended….pretty funny though, we were going to go bowling on Friday….hmmm you have inspired me to make it happen!
