… The whole of the UAE will come to a stand still for this New Years Eve as President HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum has announced that all celebrations would be cancelled (or postponed) in support and solidarity for the Gaza drama. This means all hotel and venues will have to cancel their year end parties following his order. Taken from UAEinteract :
In his capacity as the Ruler of Dubai, HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai has ordered the cancellation of all forms of celebrations marking the New Year in Dubai emirate.
According to Sheikh Mohammed’s order, Dubai emirate will mark the New Year with a sombre tone as a token of solidarity with the Palestinian people in general and Gaza strip in particular which is currently under the barrage Israeli’s military fire.
While I totally understand the intention and the need to support the innocent Gaza victims, this will undeniably get more than one tourist here for the holiday in a angry state. As well as those who planned/spent quite some cash, on booking VIP tables, tickets for events in hotels, venues and such. Event organizers are about to make announcements in the coming hours. Stay tuned !
With this in mind I can see a huge rush at Carrefour for some salmon, and NYE groceries to be done. MMI will see a huge surge in thirsty expats too ! Thankfully, we did just that yesterday !
UPDATE : Apparently, only outdoor celebrations will be cancelled. Indoor events will continue as planned !

thats crazy! i feel sorry for the partystarters! SUCKS
