Health update. Rant.

img_1514

Can I just highlight a very weird issue here ! Since the previous post was posted, albeit with a really cool picture of some random ladies having fun in a nightclub, the hits to that particular post have risen compare to all other DOWNLOADABLES posted so far !! It’s disturbing, knowing 75% of the readership is female. Or is it just the other 25% having a girl fix for the day ? Since the pictures might actually push you to click on a post, I decided to post my rant and health update illustrated with another set of chic party chicks. Puts some glamour into ear infection I say !

So today was the D-day concerning my ears. I had to go and see the doctor once more to check on the improvement. After another series of checks including a Tympanogram (definition below), an audiogram and a long chat about previous ear problems and the effects the medicine he had prescribed to me earlier in the week. He decided to ground me until next Wednesday to make sure the darn eardrum and ear canal are fully recovered before I can step on another plane. The fact that I cannot equalize (meaning blowing inwards to pop your ears, this is not recommended by the way) greatly helped the doc to make his decision. So that’s my Dusseldorf scrapped, my long awaited and carefully planned 5 day weekend in Paris scrapped (I will have to get my tickets refunded, don’t let me forget !) and another loooooong week in Dubai ahead. I’m so disappointed. I was so pumped up for this month, it comes as a bloomin’ punch in the left eye. Flying with flu, sinuses or anything linked to the nose and ears can damage them.

You might of noticed that I do not talk about politics on the blog. For one it’s illegal here in Dubai (at least talking about the Ruler in a bad way and religion is prohibited). Secondly, I’m such an ignorant fool on various, if not all political topic, that I’d much rather let everyone else have an arguement for me. With all that’s happening in the Middle East, especially in Gaza these days I can only say I’m shocked to see so many innocents pay the price of a few badly managed mistakes from both sides. I know I’m making shortcuts here but, let’s get to the point. Killing people is not a long term solution. It can only get worse. On that topic, I’d much rather turn you onto an opiniated mind like Alex K who just happened to blog about the Middle Eastern Crisis (click to open). He also happens to be one of my friends over in Hip-Paris. If you’re a fan of football, techno music/DJs, and anything revolving around politics, then make sure you add his blog to your favourites !

Finally, we had big storms in Dubai yesterday. It finally felt like winter although the temperature is well above the 15 degree mark. And this afternoon, whilst writting this piece some heavy vibrations shook the whole building. I’m probably the only one feeling those. But it scared the shit outta me. Is it some earthquake aftermath or what ?

That’s it from me. I will most probably head to the Ice Skating Rink tonight at around 6pm to join Melissa in her triple Klutz demo. Pictures/Video to come. Stay tuned !

Tympanometry is an examination used to test the condition of the middle ear and mobility of the eardrum (tympanic membrane) and the conduction bones by creating variations of air pressure in the ear canal.
Tympanometry is an objective test of middle-ear function. It is not a hearing test, but rather a measure of energy transmission through the middle ear. The test should not be used to assess the sensitivity of hearing and the results of this test should always be viewed in conjunction with pure tone audiometry.
Tympanometry is a valuable component of the audiometric evaluation. In evaluating hearing loss, tympanometry permits a distinction between sensorinueural and conductive hearing loss, when evaluation is not apparent via Weber and Rinne testing. Furthermore, in a primary care setting, tympanometry can be helpful in making the diagnosis of otitis media by demonstrating the presence of a middle ear effusion. (Source: Wikipedia)

  2. I’m surprised you heard the loud thunder – I could see a lot of flashing outside but I had some headphones on so didn’t hear much. First time it happened I thought someone was taking my picture from the Mashreq building next door!
Can’t wait to see the video BTW – I didn’t take many pictures :-(
