With a little Tequila after taste I take it to the keyboard and give it my best shot to update you with the latest from this side of mother Earth. It’s been 8 days now that I have been in Dubai recovering from my left ear gloom. Quite a heap has happened, unlike the title suggests. I have been sick, obviously, high on medicine and essential oils provided by the Doctor. Clearing those ear canal wasn’t easy but I can say the medicines worked the trick. Having an enormous amount of horizontal rest helped too. I have been loving my lone days in bed. Catching up on the last 9 months of fatigue I’ve accumulated. The only problem now is to work out the sleep pattern as it is all effed up. Waking up at unholy hours of the evening, having a Wagamama for breakie and drinking when the rest of the world dips their buttered toasts in coffee.
The week’s highlight were most notably our short but ooooh soo good work out session at the Dubai Mall Ice Rink, where Melissa (TampaxTowers blog) witnessed the ordeal of me teaching basic skating moves to a rookie french girl called Nivine. You can have a laugh seeing the video below. I can say Melissa works those iron blades quite well. I didn’t – and I’m not lying here (or making her a favor) – see her make love to the ice once ! Good on ya ! Quite a lot of people turned out for the event that was organized by the Facecard board members. 490 to be exact. So it is most likely we’ll be having more of those free days out in the near future. And has the days get hotter, we can look forward to a day out at Atlantis Water Park… More on that when the official statement is broadcasted ! At the ice rink, we also saw Jeremy (a crazy Maltese), Ian and a somewhat weird hip-hop dancing skater in the corner of the venue. She was all kitted out, own skates, fancy color frolicks and iPod to which she dances alone to for the most part of the evening. Gathering confused stares from her fellow colleagues. Who ever you are lady, you made our day !
Fast forward two or three days of lazing around in the flat eating, texting and sleeping, and stop to yesterday’s awesome goodness at ZINC. Yes Zinc. Another night there. It is a Cabin Crew’s second home. People hate it but secretly love it. Mondays are probably the best night there. No showing off bullshit, kust simply happy crew getting wasted and having a good time. Powered by some 80’s tunes, the dance floor gets pumping quite frantically. Especially when Madonna comes on. You’d wonder why… It is the only place in Dubai you can get in alone and come out with 10 people who you never suspected would turn up. So the night goes down pretty quickly. Tequila after Tequila. Bacardi after Bacardi. But 3 in the morning is waaaaayyyy too early to hit the sack. So usually if you hang out on the patio, you will get some info on where the party continues (usually a flat nearby). This is what happened yesterday. We rocked to Al Ghadeer for some after party. Meet interesting new people. In this case Manu and Rafa. The two being host to the whole thing and the latter being DJ himself. That would be the point of transition here. Like an amazing CNN anchor I provide you here with Rafa’s latest DJ track.
An uplifting mix. Please go download the track and listen. To what I hear, he provides the whole building with homemade CD’s. The first time I heard some of his material was in an open top Peugeot 206 wondering aimlessly around Sheihk Zayed and Jumeirah One looking for a place to park. We had cranked the system to an unbelievably high volume and waved our arms in the passing air like complete dumbasses competing with the nearby Bentleys and Cayennes owned by what seemed to be locals because they had Britney’s ‘Womanizer’ playing loud too. Loved it and wanted that CD. The mix is 1 hour and 4 minutes long. It weighs 44 Mb but is totally worth it. I had permission from Rafa to post this upon here, so take a listen ! He’ll rock out some more tunes later as I hear. It’s a perfect track for you’re early evening drinks and after hours ! It reminds me of some Hotel Costes / Buddha Bar songs I heard before.

Unfortunately for you guys, and lucky for the peeps that were with me yesterday, I’m thinking Geraldine, Audrey, Ray (all three readers of this blog) , Nivine (you especially), Moos, Medy, and others I didn’t have my camera with me. But for sure some pictures will make it to Facebook in a matter of minutes as I finish this post and I will share them with you.
This is a wrap. My week ends soon as I’m bound for Bombay Friday, then onto Birmingham where the lovely Thea and her boy are awaiting (more on that later on) and Jo’Burg. Will of course report on all of those trips. Until then, I wish you a very very happy rest of week. Keep safe !
Oooh. I needed to tell you that I finally received the quarterly email from my beloved brother who is down in Ozzieland. He got fed up with the shitty weather in Brisbane so he got a plane ticket to Broome on the complete other side of the country. To the latest news he’ll be diving for Oyster Pearls off the coast of Broome. Getting precious mooolahh and being offline for 10 days. He will not have access to a telephone nor internet in that period of time. He’s apparently enjoying every moment of it and loves the red earth and sunny skies. He alo got sun burnt, that was bound to happen ! More on his shenanigans as I receive the next quaterly email…

In a previous hostie life I spent a lot of time in Broome. The sunburn is always of the nuclear cosmic variety (very ouch!) I’m sure your bro will love it, not many can say they’ve been pearl diving in Broome. Lot of Japanese history in Broome, aside from WW2 I mean!
Glad you’re feeling better, ear trouble is the biggest pain in the ass EVER!!!
Sorry for inadequately calling it Pearl fishing. It seems a lot harder now than fishing hhahah. We’ll see how it turns out, but he’s getting a fair amount for doing this. He gets to stay in a house and gets fed everyday !
Hey, I wasn’t correcting you… I suppose you could also call it fishing… he may be working on a pearl farm in which case not so much diving :p
Good if they provide the accomm as it is very $$$ to rent a house or flat in Broome so I hear!
Ahah lol, didn’t think you did for a second. he gets 140 Dollarz per day, which isn’t too bad, keeps his account afloat.
Oh Broome is absolutely gorgeous, although I’ve only seen the airport and seen the area on approach!…
I’m waiting for the day my aircraft goes tech there! hehehe
Yes well while the rest of my high school were going to parties and getting drunk/high/pregnant I spent my Wed. nights at the Ice Rink in Mirrabooka, and thus why I have never fallen at Dubai Ice Rink! You were alright on the ice skates, I didn’t witness the monumental stack you said had happened. From what I could see you didn’t teach Nivine much – just a lot of helping her up after she’d fallen. Nice to see chivalry still prevails.
Ooooh Broome, Cable Beach is supposed to be gorgeous! Although Nick had better look out, don’t know if the season has past, but Broome is known to cop it’s fair share of Tropical Cyclones! If he wanted to avoid tropical weather he should have gone south – Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth, Hobart, Canberra, even Alice Springs!
Who do you know dips buttered toast in coffee?
What is this??? you must be resting not going party!! you are sick!!! lol!!!
Exactly Airboy as Fito pointed out you are sick, you should not be allowed to party LOL
Great Blog. pretty funny haha
OMG Mel, Mirrabooka!!!!!!! Ah the memories… used to hang out there on Fri & Sat nights..!
Cyclone season is Nov-April each year, with the occasional straggler. Cable Beach is ace, I was lucky enough to stay there a few times. Love crew discount on cocktails, yeah!! Remind me to do a ‘retro-post’ about it for you guys.
SHB, if you get the cockpit crew in on it an unscheduled layover is all yours… or you could just go for the Visine… ;P
wiiicked!!!

greats form thailand dude
Thanks heaps !
