A sound system is a make or break !

Yesterday in Dubai was amazing. Sun was out (like today), people were out, temperatures are gradually going upwards. For many weeks I had been getting up at night and basically living like an howl. A Bombay turnaround later, I’m now in sync with the real world that surrounds me. I get up early, enjoy the day and go to bed at reasonable hours. My body clock has adjusted so far. But not long I guess before another 3am departure hits the corner of my head.

Bombay. Thankfully I was rostered on the 502, which leaves dubai at 1.20 in the afternoon and comes back before 10 at night. Better than the night one. It was full both ways. Nothing much to say about it as we were too busy to actually reflect on what we were doing. NO time to think about anything. Head in the cart, you dish those trays out as fast as you can and with a smile. The new service Emirates has introduced is heavyweight. No other airline does what we do for short haul. If you’re flying to or from Bombay/Mumbai with Emirates you can expect a FULL meal/bar service, welcoming drinks, menus. Basically everything you’d find on a DXB – LHR. And this is a 2.20 flight counting the climb and descent. We were actually surprised to fit everything in. I cannot remember a flight like that. Every crew was on the ball. From the Suppies to the FG1’s. Yes we also had 2 suppies. Poor them, thrown onto a BOM with a new service, that’s harsh ! Mijat and Yujin big up to you. You did extremely well considering the pace of the flight and how busy we were… You guys rocked when I saw you take the meal carts on your own when I would of probably been hiding in the cockpit…

I really enjoyed my return to flying after being grounded. Next up is Birmingham where I shall meet Alethea and her new born baby. More on this as I come back.

Before my Bombay, I had been out with the french Gang again to a club named Platinum. It is located in the Metropolitan Hotel on Sheikh Zayed Road. I had never heard of the place, until Zane, our beloved South African, called us in for some drinks and party there. We got there and from outside we could already hear the pumping music. The place is decorated victorian style, with carpet on the walls, Louis XVI style furniture and all that. “Flamboyant / Flamboyancy ” as they like to advertise on their ugly framed plasme TV’s. The atmosphere there was dull as hell. People didn’t seem to enjoy themselves, they just stood there as statues. But we didn’t care, we danced the night away, you could see a pool of activity going in the club, that was us ! Helped of course by numerous drinks and shots. Gradually the ice surrounding those peeps started to melt and the club went alive 30 minutes before it closed. It is definately a club in which to be seen, where you hang out to make a statement. And boy do I hate those clubs. “Ladies” looking at us like we’re pieces of crap… etc… not very welcoming. Not to mention the appalling sound system they on cue that night. CLUB OWNERS, If you haven’t spent a significant amount on your speakers and overall system, there’s absolutely no need to crank the volume too high as it will show how bad they sound. These particular speakers were spitting… We didn’t care, we made a right mess of the place and ourselves. Pictures below… Note : I had sunglasses, not my typical accessory in a nightclub, and I already feel ashamed. We got out of this ghetto to end up at 21st Century and finish the night there ! Good times !

As I hit the publish button for this entry, I will be heading to Zabee’l Park with Tall Ben. We wanted green. We wanted to get away from the beige and sand for a few minutes. Will take my camera, maybe it’s worth a snap.

Otherwise, I have discovered I have 3 Paris trips next month, I have yet to see what I have in between. I can already feel the turnarounds showing up. Will update you and let you know as soon as I get my full roster.
