Has Emirates stopped recruiting ? [UPDATE #2]

CHECK OUT MY LATEST POST ON THE ISSUE HERE

After receiving well over 20 emails asking the same question, I thought I’d share my point of view here. Many of you are wondering why Emirates has postponed many of it’s Open Days and Global Assessment days without giving any reason so far. I have no idea why at this stage but will investigate the issue tomorrow as the week starts on Sundays here. For those of you who have been hired and have sent medicals, please make sure you contact the HR office tomorrow to get a clear answer on the status of your application, because I cannot it give to you. I do not work for HR, and I have no access what so ever to your applications.

I also received numerous emails stating that Emirates has withdrawn some of the applications after offering positions. This remains unclear but the rumors around the forums and all over the internet are spreading like wildfire. Until further information from Emirates, these will remain rumors.

So to put things clear, I do not know the reason why Open Days are postponed or if Emirates has stopped recruiting all together. I will ask around tomorrow and find out.

[UPDATE] : I have gathered a little more information. They have halted Open Days and hiring processes for many aspiring Emirates Crew Members for an undefined time period. I understand they will be re-contacting applicants who already went through the whole hiring process as soon as they overcome the current economical downturn and they need new joiners. This is an excerpt from an email sent from HR I got earlier on today…

“The current economic climate has prompted many airlines (including ourselves) to re-assess business strategy and recruitment needs for the future. As a business it is paramount that we ensure that we match our recruitment policy to our actual and anticipated business requirements to enable us to create the right training and career opportunities for all those who wish to join us. This re-assessment has resulted in a decision to significantly reduce the number of new Cabin Crew we are hiring this year.
[...] We would seek to re-contact you when we have our next course start dates confirmed…”

The future dates for the next courses are not yet announced. I will try my best to provide as much information as I can. And again, I’m not affiliated to Emirates HR nor any department other than InFlight Services. Consider this information as non-official. For more information please seek the appropriate department within Emirates.

Another thing too : I do not have any numbers, emails, or contact details for HR services at Emirates. Please bear this in mind as you send me an email…

  6. I’m about to assist to an Assesment Day on Feb 23rd in Argentina. This really worries me. I’ve been preparing myself, bought a suit, already made a deposit to book a hotel room for the days i’ll be attending to the interview. I hope all this to be worth. It would be absolutely annoying to go through all the process and then receiving a withdrawal on my application.

    Please Ben, keep us informed!

    Greetings,

    LM.

  8. Hi LeAviateur:

    ( with Sodwee permision)

I am appling also for an assesment day in Mar del Plata, Argentina via the web site, but I got no answer yet. I live in Lima-Peru and I need to make reservations for transportation and hotels in Argentina, so I a little confused about it, bacause I don get any answer yer.

Before that I was appling for the Rosario and even Cordoba dates, but those where taked out from the website.

Did you receive any answer from Emirates once you finish to fill the online aplication?

Did you receive any email after the 7 days you filled the application?

Hope to get contact with you, and all the info we can share can help other people too.

    Sincerly

  9. Makes you wonder how many of those “58″ Airbus A380s are actually going to remain grounded. Emirates I guess never saw this coming or as it always likes to be, remained optimistic. The Global world situation is only getting worse and Emirates too is falling victim to it.

I just hope for those FA’s who have just started flying it does not mean being grounded permanently or temporarily, due to the economic situation worldwide. FA’s too are becoming part of the reduced workload at least in this part of the world. Well airlines are seeing if you have no passengers to fill your planes, why have FA’s then?

  11. Currently out of all the cities with Assessment days, Argentina – Mar Del Plata and Morroco – Casablanca are the only ones not showing a postponement. Maybe it’s still available, but then Emirates has canceled close to the date of the assessment. Would be scary to book a flight to get there and a room to stay, and then have it postponed. Under the current situation it would be best to wait till things improve. (I am sure Ben would agree too).

  12. hi.. and OMG!!!
this is kinda weird, and makes me worry… i just saw that even in brazil they are postponing, and that is weird.. cuz they used to have like one open or assesstment every week there… and the agency that do the open days said this:

    IMPORTANT NOTICE:

WE REGRET TO INFORM THAT DUE TO UNFORESEEN CIRCUMSTANCES THE FEBRUARY 2009 CAMPAING IS CANCELLED (OPEN AND ASSESSMENT DAYS).

ALL 2009 RECRUITMENT CAMPAINGS FROM NOW ON ARE POSTPONED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE.

PLEASE CONTINUE VISITING THIS PAGE FOR UPDATED INFORMATION.

  13. Just what is happening here to existing crew, and that too with crew serving in Business Class!!!

    Layoffs target cabin crews

    http://www.thestar.com/Business/article/576544

Air Canada plans to slash another 345 jobs as it attempts to further scale back flying in the face of a weak global economy………………….

As part of the downsizing, Air Canada said it plans to reduce by one the number of flight attendants serving its business-class cabins on transatlantic flights.

The measures are scheduled to take place beginning March 2.

“We will be looking to mitigate the cuts to the extent that we can,” said Peter Fitzpatrick, a spokesperson for Air Canada.

He said the reduced number of cabin crew on transatlantic flights will now be in line with those on other routes and would not compromise passenger safety…………………

  14. LeAviateur, RobertoViajero. I’m also from Córdoba, Argentina, only that I already had my final interview last November and I’m still waiting for a reply! No confirmation email, no rejection email either. All we received is an email from Emirates HR team requesting as to switch our Annual Leave Destination from Cordoba to Buenos Aires. After reading Ben’s today’s post, I kind of freaked out and want to know what is exactly going on with my job application (which is supposedly on good track). I’ve been trying to contact Emirates HR office in Dubai by phone for over an hour, but it’s impossible to get through. And regarding the Open Day in Mar del Plata, it’s still up, so I’d reccommend to still attend if you don’t live too far from Mar del Plata (don’t know what to suggest you, RobertoViajero), but keep your expectations low since changes are Emirates is not recruiting much people for the time being. Where are you from LeAviateur?
    Let’s keep our fingers crossed.
    Take care

  15. I am sorry sodwee,I know you have been bombrushed with tons of questions already, but your the outsiders voice from the inside… but I’m confused/denial, please God no, I just sent off pics, birth cert…etc.., waiting for the response on my final interview. So does this mean that I may be put on hold, cause I have not recieved my medical forms yet..Okay this is not happening, this is not going to happen again..last year with United Airlines I was hired and three days before my training it was canceled due to the economy. I’ve come so far and have already unloaded money I did not have for this. I am praying for the best….

  16. whoa…… im scared now…im supposed to be joinin the airline this up coming feb20th… so far, no email has been sent to me regarding this situation… i already sent them the confirmation of resignation..and been told that everything’s fine… now, reading all this, really makes me nervous..oh boy oh boy….all of the joiners selected with me are already in dubai, wich kinda comforts me…but then again, nothing’s for sure… think i’ll stick to my initial plan….what a fuss…

  17. Hi everyone! I’m from Argentina and i’ve already sent my medicals last 27th january. They answered me that they’ll have to check it first and get back to me as early as possible if in case they need any other reports and for updates regarding my medicals.
I would like to know in which situation were the people that received that awful “re-contact mail”. If they’ve, like me, already sent the medicals and signed the pre-contract paper or if they just were informed by phone about their DOJ

A little piece of good news is what I really need!!!

  18. After my final interview in Taiwan on early January 2009.

    Today the “RESULT” came…
Not very good but I think MOST of people who are waiting for the result after final in are all received the same one…

Thank you for your application and the time you have given to attend the various elements of our assessment process for the position of Cabin Crew with Emirates Airline. Our team has carefully reviewed your candidature and considered your background and demonstrated competencies through our recruitment process. Regrettably we must inform you that on this occasion you have been unsuccessful.

We wish to point out that this is no reflection of you as a candidate as you did demonstrate potential through our process. Your not being successful at this time is the result of us having to select a finite number of people from a large pool of high quality candidates to meet our current aircraft crewing requirements.

We do thank you for your interest and the enthusiasm you have shown and we would welcome a reapplication from you in the future. Our team will look to make contact with you in approximately six to nine months time to see if you would like to reapply to join our international Cabin Crew team.

  19. Hi everyone…I’m just scared shitless after reading all your posts!

ccARG, I’m on the same page as you here: I attended final interview in Seville, Spain, late november and still waiting for a contact! No email, no call, no nothing….. getting real desperate as I am aware of the global situation.

My ‘inside’ contact in Dubai tells me that ‘no news is good news’ but I’m freaking out now! I’ll try to call them again, as they’re not returning my emails.

Cheers guys and good luck to us all!

  20. Hi everyone, well… that’s all folks… I’ve just received that awful mail. My DOJ was 13 march and i had already sent my medicals.

They withdraw their offer of employment. Only one girl got to fly last 4th february… but the rest not.

    Nothing much to say…

  24. I still have no idea if they’re still holding the open day in Toronto this Saturday. Well I guess after having seen the dreadful “no open day/ global assessment day scheduled” message on the Emirates website, as well as what’s being discusssed here the chances are very low. :’(
It’s strange because I’ve been reading some news articles on Emirates’ continual growth despite the economic crisis. You can easily find news articles on the web talking about Emirates betting on new routes, adding new aircraft to fleet, etc. This one’s titled “Emirates Announces 2009 Expansion Plan”. http://business.maktoob.com/NewsDetails-20070423211859-_Emirates_Announces_2009_Expansion_Plan_.htm
Sadly, there’s no mention about hiring more cabin crews.
