RED ALERT RED ALERT RED ALERT, awesomeness__aaaaaahhhhhh___I just fell off my beanbag__click play NOW NOW NOW NOW:

I have found a truly amazing piece of music. Some ILLUMINATED GENIUS named Jason Tyler ripped Obama’s Grant Park (Chicago, IL) election night speech into a sizzzzzzlin’ track with influences from the Daft Punk era and the 1990’s pop goodness. Please, DOWNLOAD AND ENJOY. Impress your mates and IT’S DANCEFLOOR READY ! [this is about as political this blog will ever get...] :

My living room is quickly becoming an entire part of my day to day life. Many crew I know of in Dubai stay in their bedroom as soon as they hit the sandpit. You’d wonder why when we have some huge living rooms and IKEA to decorate to our taste, people would still rather lock themselves in their rooms. I must say having a really truly rockin’ flatmate makes socialising so much easier , subsequently, decorating the living is a piece of cake ! So yesterday, Nivine, Chaouki and myself took another deadly cab to Dubai Festical City where the swedish embassy stands : IKEA. We – as experienced shoppers – avoided the showroom uselessness and powerwalked a shortcut straight to the markethall (the part of the store where they stack everything). We were honestly droolling over every item. But we had a list, and we agreed not to buy more than we should (of course, it didn’t really happen). Picking stuff as we went along, absolutely not thinking of the financial consequence such a spree would have. Anyway… We came into the lighting section. This is, by far, my favourite corner of IKEA. I have become such an expert in the field, to the extent of knowing the exact lightbulb needed for each and every light socket. The lamp I had in mind even before entering the shop was a bigass monster. Only a picture can describe the thing best (see below, click image to enlarge).

IKEA regolit floor lamp bow

This lamp is mammoth ! It was going to be in the living but after debating for almost 45 minutes, I decided to have in the bedroom, it was taking way too much karma space. So it’s now hovering above my bed…. And I must admit, it looks amazing… I also picked some stickable mirrors to add in the bedroom and a new bed set. Nothing too exciting there compared to the lamp.

Now… Brace. I went coocoo. You guys probably know by now that I’m French, my hometown is Paris, in France. And I was missing all the goodness that this city holds. My aunt & uncle back in Kent had sent me this Eiffel Tower postcard for my last birthday. Strolling down IKEA, past the lighting section, I see in the back a huuuuuuuge picture of the Eiffel Tower. You’d wonder where is the connection between the postcard and this gigantic photo in IKEA?? Well, it’s the damn same picture. So no more no less I grab the thing for home. It is now proudly sitting on top of the cupboard in “le salon”. The room feels a lot less empty, having Khalil’s extensive line up of mugs from around the world, my big ass Eiffel Tower over-powering our little lives now, I feel AT HOME ! Add to that the fact we have a third living being in the flat, namely, a green plant… I’m all happy chappy.

So this is me, after half an hour of pain and sweat to assemble a rather easy looking kit. Not to mention, Nivine was trying to help, but she’s a much better Ice-skater than she is a IKEA assembler. It goes without saying. We are complete noobs when it comes to build something out of our own hands. Especially if it was made by IKEA. The result is awwwweeeeeesome!

We had to take pictures and share our moment ! You can’t go further into French Frenzy.

Today was spent mostly on the computer reading forums, blogs and trying to get as much info as possible on the Emirates Recruitment Halt issue. It looks gloom. People are getting all confused and angry over the internet. I will call around tomorrow and see what’s up. The planes are empty, it’s no secret. I’ve heard of a B777-300 bound for London Heathrow with 70 passengers in Economy. Which is unheard of here at Emirates ! AN EMPTY LHR ?? You gotta be kiddin’ me !? Well it’s true. We can definately see a slow down in the number of passengers. And I think it’s a general consensus. People just don’t have the money to travel, more significantly, small and large businesses have clamped down on their travel expenses ! Just today, Tall Ben was saying a French Ambassador in some asian country was flying Economy ! VIP and all but paxing with the rest of the crowd, unheard of again! When will they bail us out ?

Otherwise I attempted making an omelette this evening. It ended in a right mess. I never failed an omelette before, and I feel extremely ashamed of myself. I figured out later, after eating the whole plate, that I forgot to put oil in the pan before pouring the eggs and peppers, bacon and mushrooms. It looked like I had out the thing through a paper shredder. It was all over the place. I will defo not cook anytime soon to gain self-confidence… And for the first time ever, Airboy has tried the Nando’s chicken. I Luuuuurve the taste ! SOoooo juicyyyy! uuum.

That was my two previous days in Dub-Dub ! Enjoy yourselves ! Will be back tomorrow to let you know how my investigation has progressed. Stay tuned !
