I visited Sharjah, the different way.

Plans were made late last night. We were all at the Shangri-La for yet another Moroccan restaurant and decided today was going to be spent visiting Sharjah. Quite a useless idea considering the place. It’s basically only sand, a few buildings and some hectic traffic. But since Fred (the only close mate who can borrow a car) decided to ship us way beyond the airport we said we’d do it. Just for fun. The ultimate plan was do go jerk around on the Jetskis available there on a kinda lake. Man made this one also. We gathered our gear. Took a little longer than usual, we were 7. We jammed ourselves in the car for our adventures and ended up on the otherside of town. Many people live in Sharjah which offers a cheap-ish alternative to Dubai rents. It’s so close to the city center that everyone who lives out there commutes for work. Leaving the only few roads in and out of that place grid-locked throughout the day. We on the other hand managed out way through the traffic and spent only a good 20 minutes from Trade Center to the place we wanted to be. In this case Al Mamzar beach.

So we rented out 7 machines for our afternoon and played around in the water like complete fools, having a huge blast at soaking the other while doing hi-speed turns and sudden accelerations, some of us fell in the water being absolute rookies. By the end of the afternoon two jetskis were broken down, but we managed not to pay the damages using our very convincing arguments. It worked wonders. Nothing major anyway, just a sunken one and a huge crack on the other…. A result of Fred’s uber-piloting and him slamming right into my jetski… Leaving a noticable bruise on my upper left leg too. The salt took care of the wound… He scared the hell out of me! Here are the pictures of the whole day. We ended in Johnny Rocket’s hamburger joint at the end of the afternoon. We had so much fun in that restaurant it is worth a post on its own. Video to be included as soon as I edit it. Ok now onto the pictures :

I also figured out yesterday it was already ONE YEAR since we first arrived here in Dubai from France. It’s gone by so quick, and feels like a permanent holiday ! We are planning a big night out soon to celebrate 365 days in the this crazy country ! More on the Johnny Rocket’s afternoon in the next post. I’m off to Mauritius again tonight. No doubt I’ll have a good time down in the Indian Ocean. Will blog about it too if I get up to some exciting stuff ! Peace out all !

    • you can negociate, there was 7 of us the other day, we rented 7 aqua-bikes for 110 dhs /hour. The more of you, the cheaper it gets and the more dangerous too (but life on the edge is good for you !).

could you tell me exactly where to go at al Mamzar Beach? Great to know that it isn’t prohibited in Sharjah…!

    Thanks!
