Bad news always comes in threes. I’ll skip the first two for now and fast forward to the latest I will have to deal with. And it’s not a little task considering the department I will have to communicate with and the obstacles I will have to overcome.
By 31st of May 2009, I will have to move out of my current location. That leaves me (and quite a significant amount of other crew too) less than a month and a half to find a flat, flatmates, fly our duties, study for SEP, move the incredible amount of stuff that has been piling up in my bedroom for over a year now, and get rest at the same time (don’t count on the latter). The building I am currently living in is – to be honest – quite old and overwhelmed with sand and humidity when a sandstorm decides to swoooosssh past us. But I really liked my place. I was on the verge of spending a good amount of moooolllaaah on paint to redecorate, but the email I was sent today just came in at the right time (for the painting session I mean), because I was lacking motivation to get my muscles working the walls up and down…
The problem with moving out and moving in to a new accomodation here, lies in the fact we have to deal with the accomodation department. And they’re by far the most difficult to get in touch with. They have left a legacy over the years and every crew gets shivers every time they think about moving…or even trying to give them a call.
The second problem is that I have been so comfortable with Ka (the Habibi that is my flatmate) that we are considering moving to the yet-to-determine new place. But we have options. He has friends with a spare room just across the street (highway in fact) and will try to get it so he can stay in the vicinity of his daily sin : The Emirates Towers Gym + Pool / ZINC.
For my part, I wouldn’t mind an inch to move elsewhere with him, but if he gets the flat he’s got in mind this means I have to get my options nice and tight before the gates open for the moving rush. Yes, because we’re talking around 120-150 crew all wanting to move at the same time heading to the same place. It’s a huge deal when you know accommodation department will have to face raging crew bulls we tend to be like in those situations !! Especially if we were forced to move !
So, if any of you already in the sandpit, has a room to spare in Emirates provided accomodation, AIRBOY would like to know : comment me, email me, facebook me, twitter me, call me or whatever it takes !!! I will consider every option and let you know if that’s a yes or no. Sharjah area will defo be last resort. Not that I don’t like you guys, but after living here for a year (in SZR…), I dread the fact of eating sand for breakfast, lunch and dinner ! Also being an avid user of our beloved taxis (not having a car myself), I will feel the need to hang myself if I can’t get to ZINC in time on a Monday night, let alone on Thursdays!
That was the bad news. The previous bad news is that our internet connection is down at home (maybe it’s linked to us moving out, I don’t know, but wouldn’t be surprised !). So I’m actually blogging from the luxurious Shangri-La Lobby. Email replies and Facebook presence will be very limited until we fix the issue with ETISLUT (real name of incriminated internet provider : ETISALAT. copyright : Melissa from the TampaxTowers). It’s a real bummer cause I can’t even skype Mother nor Father anymore…. Sad I know.
Anyway. I just came back from a busy Jeddah flight. But I was in good shape after my 8 day holiday in Paris. Tomorrow I will be heading to Doha which is nice, just because it’s a silly little flight and I’ll be back before you even try to say “peanuts” !
Peace out yall. May the Accommodation Lord be with me in May !

Good Luck with finding a new place to call home! I feel your pain, I was without internet last fall because our house was destroyed in Hurricane Ike and we just didn’t bother getting it in our apartment while waiting for the house to be fixed. I think that was the hardest part of the whole experience…ok, maybe not the hardest but it did suck: )
Everything happens for a reason. Maybe there is accommodation greatness waiting for Airboy down the track!!! Good luck with the move.
Hey, don’t knock Sharjah until you’ve tried it! I must say I’m glad I got out of there while I still had a choice and without a super long queue to deal with.
Are you sure they’re demolishing the places? If they are then I’m gonna complain about the painting charge… Mind forwarding the email to my gmail? Would be great to see. And sweet revenge on FN6
Did they ask you for a painting charge ?? The fools !
