How I got lost in Al Barsha…

Today was filled with exciting new stuff I had to do. I went to visit the newly finished (not quite in fact) TECOM building which will hold the future White and Blue Building stranded. By the end of May, as previously mentioned, we will have to evacuate these two buildings and relocate. So they held some open house for us to check on the facilities and the flats.

I got up a tad later than I should of and stormed off to Al Barsha in the middle of a sandstorm, turning my hair into sandpaper, inhaling cement dust from all sides and trying to look out for that building. I headed for Mall Of The Emirates which is close from the TECOM building but still not close enough to survive the walk in those conditions. I did have a map in mind but somehow my sense of direction today wasn’t with me. Hoped off the cab and went it a random building on Barsha 1 road. Turns out I was lucky because I ran straight into another Emirates Accommodation building and they were able to direct me to a “BIG triangle looking building”. My expectation at that moment just fell through the ground ! “A triangle building ???? You gotta be kidding right ??” did I say to the security guard on duty. To what he replied with a smile : “Yes it’s triangle, you can’t miss it”. I said “oh well ok”… Not thinking much about the actual shape of the building I got into another cab and headed to The Emirates Greens via the backroads of Dubai. Jeeez what a journey ! Sand hitting the windscreen real hard, we finally approached a building that looked similar to a triangle. And the word “similar” here is far fetched.

The actual building is of a star shape from the skyes, meaning it has 3 branches (see google earth screencap below, click to enlarge) and is 28 floors high. The size of the thing is kinda scary. As we approached closer, it seems like they’ll be having an entire Cabin Crew city over there. They can easily put up around 2000 crew.

I again got lost inside the complex. Finally I came across other desperate crew and asked them if they knew how to get to the showrooms. I finally got to the second floor after roaming around the parking lot for ages.

The flat themselves are really nice, lots of light pouring in from the windows. Windows we can open might I add. A balcony is located alongside the living. It’s a nice huge space where I can easily see a video projector being installed with a kick ass sound system. The kitchen is of decent size, not too big, not too small and has all the latest applicances. Including a 5 stove range cooker : super snazzz ! I might actually start cooking !

The Bedrooms are nice too, of decent size. Each occupant gets its own bathroom. Only downside, there’s no bathtub ! And there’s a master bedroom which is just huge and complete with a balcony ! COO COO !

To sum it up, the place is nice, location is a bit rough at the moment but will be fine when all the shops around open and make it a little more welcoming.

In other news, I finally got back into the kick of things here and attented a house party hosted by Henry, a french colleague here who decided to throw a bash for his incoming flatmate ! I even met with Christmas (read Daniel) who owns the Jube Eye. Nice to finally meet him ! I also caught up on the gossip with Szilvia from my training days and the usual suspects, namely, Greg and Nivine. We all went to Shangri-La to celebrate Nivine’s successful SEP recurrent ! Soon is my turn !

  1. Love all the dark colours! Very masculine. And that kitchen is to die for, you could cook up a storm in there!! Not too sure about the view though!

  2. Love the kitchen. Apartments are quite nice! Mel would be pleased with the closet, at least it looks like it has a bit more room than hers!

As you say it will be much better when all the shops and such open!
