While every other airline is struggling through what is being dubbed as the worst economic downturn. Emirates had the wise idea of going forward with their makeover. Proving once more that they have the strength to innovate and change even in weak periods. We’ll get to know if that was a wise move or not later on. But for now I’ll enjoy my little moment in that new uniform.
It was in the pipeline since the A380 launch earlier last year. The new uniform as now come to reality for the rest of us on the main fleet. On 7th of June 2009, the entire Cabin Crew team will leave their sky blue shirts, sand beige pants and clogs in their closet and will don the new smart as uniform. We used to look like goofs, now we look smarter, more business like and definately more attractive.
I went to CBC (Crew Briefing Center) this morning to empty my mailbox and decided to check my corporate emails at the same time. And holy mahogany ! I had received the long awaited email informing me that my uniform was ready for pick up three floors above. I logged off in a hurry and literally ran to the lifts, got to the third floor and ran the entire width of the building (it’s a long run, especially for someone who needs a nutritionist and who’s been called “frail” and “fragile” and “obviously underweight”). God only knows how I managed, but I made it in one piece. They managed to mix up the staff numbers and the package numbers of the set I was in but finally called IT (for a uniform !!!???) and picked the right bag.
These are the new shoes. And boy do I love’em ! So light compared to the previous clogs we had to wear :
Ran back downstairs for some Coca-Cola (that’s to turn my nutritionist into a fit), met Deon and Clauderic (doing some Christmas shopping in the official Emirates store), chatted for a couple of minutes before the urge of having a meal from “Healthy Options” counter struck me (understand tobacco here). Got to plane spot and watch airport staff baking under the hot sun for a while then got bored. Jumped on the bus back home and got to try on that uniform. Trousers need a trim as Jarad suggested, I need smaller waist jackets. So I’ll have to go to Emirates Aviation College tomorrow to get them sorted. Until then you can take a peek at what I’ll look like on-board. Bear in mind I didn’t shave for these pictures. I’m on my days off : who the hell shaves on a day off ???

Well, as I am at 380 fleet, I actually feel weird when I see the old uniforms. Ladies, be aware that the shoes scratch very, very easily!
those shoes are really fab compared to the last ones (be grateful you were never here for the Hush Puppy era), but not flash on the galley floor. CLOMP CLOMP CLOMP – an SFS’s dream: “ok guys, its a night flight, just remember not to clomp your feet on the galley floor. thats it from my side, lets have a good one!”
