Air France AF 447 Rio – CDG / Paris Update + MP3 !

Air France A330-200

First of all, my deepest thoughts go to the families and friends of those affected by the tragedy that occured over the Atlantic ocean on Sunday night. It’s a cold reminder of how things can turn ugly in a matter of seconds. Until further details arise from the accident, I will not comment or discuss any of the implication although weather seems to have played a big part. I just hope they tackle the enormous task ahead to let us know what has happened. For the families at first, in their own right to know the cirumstances and understand the how’s and the why’s. But also for crew, something we can all learn from no matter how it was dealt with or how different factors came into play. The least they can do is come up with a relevant explanation.

It came as a shock for me. I had just landed the previous evening in the same terminal and the news was totally unexpected. Leaving my hunger for more details unsatisfied until later on today when they confirmed the debris traces in the middle of the ocean.

In lighter news, I can say I’m enjoying my time here in Paris, France. The weather is just to die for ! Terraces seem to be packed all the time. Making it very hard to find a decent table. What is a decent table for Airboy ? Well, a table that has a good mix of sun, shade and views. This would be the perfect terrace for a few hours of freak-spotting.

I get around on the bike, working on those muscles like an athlete and, of course, listening to some kick ass tunes at the same time. Dad has an extensive collection of old vynil record in what was once called “My Bedroom”, now turned into a get-away-from-motherofsodwee type of Bedroom (only kiddin’ Mum !) where Father likes to unwind. A multitude of gadgets scattered around the room and that collection of records and the Turntable hooked on the hi-fi system. A beautiful collection it is. Goodies like this copy of a Stevie Wonder pressing of “Up-Tight, Everything’s Alright” amongst others. I’m like a kid in a candy store when it comes to analog. And boy do I enjoy some good full/round sound from those turntables. Good times all around.

GrannyOfSodwee is in da house too, it’s been a hell a long time since I saw her last so it’s nice to catch up on the goss. Took them around a power-walking tour of downtown Paris, through some covered 19th century galleries, over to the Louvre, past Notre-Dame, a pit stop for some Berthillon ice cream (a must do in Paris people, it’s a complete sin, not to indulge yourself with a couple scoops !) and finally trecked our way through the Latin Quarter, past the famous bookskop named Shakespear & Co. The sun was out all day, not a single cloud to be seen. Just. Plain. Blissful ! We did manage to squeeze a beer or two in between for good measure.

Pictures will come in the round up post as I’m focusing on getting away as far as possible from the laptop while I’m in Paris. You would have already noticed how my tweets and facebook updates became so sporadic in the last 48 hours. Sad innit !??

Anyway, I will have to leave things hanging a little longer peeps before I can put my brains to function again and write up a post of the entire holidays. A video is already in the works, plenty of pictures are already set to go live. Put I’m putting together a massive post for the end of the week, so stay tuned for the latest Airboy goss.

In the meantime, please enjoy this FREE sweet from Jack White’s new new Band THE DEAD WEATHER. They graciously offered this track against an email. The track is DOPE ! I’ve been a fan of White’s work for the past 7 or so years. And if you digged a little more in my internet CV you might of notice a White Stripes Fan site that was maintained by your favourite hostie. Unfortunately due to time constraints, this website is now run by my Editor in Chief Sabby, who does a wonderful job by the way ! Check out and download that track while stocks lasts :

Enjoy it and Peace out fools.

  1. Woah, you tell GrannyOfSodwee hi from me, won’t you ? Been long since I last met her as well (perhaps not as long as all the way back to Easter 1995, but…). Also as I mentionned somewhere else, you’re just very very lucky with the weather – ten days or so ago wasn’t so nice.

As for the AF447 flight… well, I’m flying to IAH on Air France next week so obviously it’s not making things exactly comfortable, is it ? Journalists just make it all worse what with their “what if-what if-what if” questions.
Ah well, I guess it happens – that’s all that can be said for sure, isn’t it ?

PS : No, I won’t take pics in the lavatories, so don’t even ask :P

  2. How bizzare that the MP3 you decided to download is from the group DEAD WEATHER, the term which ironically is also linked to the post you created about AF 447 which linked death with the weather!!! Of course I am sure you didn’t see it that way.

    PS: Enjoy your stay!

  4. Very sad indeed. I’d hate to comment on what happened re Air France but I’ll tell ya what. Last night with a gathering of pilots here, some were speculating something completely different, considering quite a few Brazillian diplomats were on board including a prince??? Would hate to think, but I guess the first thing that comes into our minds on such a tradegy is I wonder if any one had any time to even prepare or what was done on board in those last few minutes. Very sad and eerie indeed. My thoughts and prayers go out to anyone touched by the tradegy.
