Hey so after some Mojito at Zuma’s yesterday followed closely by a Havana & Coke we decide to call it a day. Woke up this morning at 18h30. Yes that’s in the afternoon or evening more like. We jump on our BMXs and go straight to Bert’s for an internet fix and to check if the rosters were out yet or not. They were ! And not really disappointed. I thought I would be turnarounding all month but turns out my “Avoid Middle East/South Asian” bid worked out well. Scored two lovely Honkers (Hong Kong), a charming Munich, and ruthless Moscow and a dreadful Manchester. Along with the usual Indian turn. This month my service magic will be unleashed on the infamous daytime Delhi. If I get called a racist one more time, there will be blood. So here goes :

Thanks for all the support on Facebook while I was waiting for my invisible roster. Divinities at Scheduling finally heard my plea ! On a high note, I’ll also be on holiday from the 18th and will be heading to Paris for some chill down time ! Happy days !
Hope evertyhing is cool beans with you guys. I’m kinda hyped up on a song Oli (Flatmate) bluetoothed me the other day : La Roux – Bulletproof [DOWNLOAD TRACK HERE]

Hey
I have been reading through all your rosters and interested in applying for EK Crew but just one thing, do you get to choose when you take your holidays or does Emirates dictate that?
Thanks!
Emirates is like a game of poker regarding leave, flights and general bidding. Sometimes they can even bluff you and change your flight without notice. Cheeky lot I’m telling you. Anyhow, as you grow in seniority within your grade, you will get more priority of when you want to take your holidays…
Your roster is so much better than mine!
Pretty nice roster, eh? worth the wait.
Looks like you’ve got a couple new destinations there, no?
Is there a bare minimum or maximum that one must fly in a month? Would love to know how all this operates.
Flight Time Limitations is something that I challenge anyone to actually brace fully. There’s so many rules, counter-rules and factors that it would be so difficult to understand and try to explain here. I haven’t completely mastered the whole thing yet so I’d be the worst one to get you an idea. But here’s what I can share :
- “In essence, The Civil Aviation Regulation requires that a crew member shall not fly, and an operator shall not require him to fly, if either has a reason to believe that he is suffering, or is likely to suffer while flying, from such fatigue as may endanger the safety of the aircraft or its occupants.”
- Cummulative duty & flying hour limitations relate to prior 28 calendar days rather than calendar months.
- Block time : first movement of the aircraft after chocks-off to complete stop and chocks-on
- A person shall not act as a member of the flight crew of an aircraft if at the beginning of the flight the aggregate of all previous flight times ;
* a/ During the period of 28 consecutive days expiring at the end of the day on which the flight begins exceeds 100 hours; or
* b/ During the period of 12 months, expiring at the end of the previous month exceeds 900 hours.
- The maximum duty hours for cabin crew shall not exceed :
> 60 hours in 7 consecutive days, extendable to 65 in the event of unforseen delays.
> 105 hours in any 14 consecutive days
> 210 hours in any 28 consecutive days
Those are some basics, but seriously, it’s really hard for me to explain because there’s many more “ifs” and “buts” like, acclimatisation (time zones), standby duties etc etc. Long haul or not, Crew Rest in flight and so on.
lucky guy!
i wanna be cabin crew so badly!!!

looks like you’re not going to be overworked this month as you said you were.. Gosh, I can’t believe I forgot my password here..
haha love the title. I was so impatient too!!!!! im quite happy with my roster as well.
Ben, thanks a lot for taking the time to explain that in such detail! I think based on those numbers it gives one a good idea of how all this works. No worries (as the Aussies say) if you didn’t get down to the nitty gritty details
60 hours in 7 consecutive days, could easily mean two back to back DXB-JFK-DXBs with a 24 hour layover in JFK and a day’s rest in DXB between the two JFK flights. Am I right? Or for that matter any of those other “gorgeous” long haulers? (Nothing less than +12 hours for me!!) I know when I flew JFK-DXB-JFK the crew said they had arrived the previous morning at 8am and were departing the next day around 11pm and I was shocked. I thought after a 14 hour flight at least 48 hours was needed, but it appears not! (And then you guys even have the energy to hit the city’s hot spots on landing LOL)
Also the fact that chocks off and on, play an integral part in all of this, may explain why sometimes an aircraft might have not even left the ground, but is forced to get a new crew once the blocked time is up. (This usually happens here in Snowstorms where the passengers are loaded, then off-loaded and then delayed even further when the block time is up, and a new crew is called in)
Again really appreciate the detailed write up!
